Selous Game Reserve

Selous Game Reserve is Africa’s largest game reserve and a top wildlife viewing destination. Covering 50,000 sq km, it remains largely untouched by human impact.

The reserve offers boating, walking, and fly camping safaris, complementing traditional game drives. Its breathtaking landscapes make it a must-visit in Tanzania’s southern circuit.

Selous is perfect for family safaris and African honeymoons, with easy access and fewer crowds. It boasts Tanzania’s most diverse safari experiences, including boating, walking, and fly camping.

The northern section features channels and lagoons fed by the Rufiji River. During the dry season, animals gather around these water sources, creating prime game viewing areas. Most camps are located here, relying on wildlife’s need for water.

Peak safari season runs from July to mid-November, when the dry season drives game toward permanent water sources.
Selous holds exceptional wildlife numbers, surpassing most African parks. Elephants, buffaloes, and lions thrive year-round, but its status as Africa’s last stronghold for wild dogs makes it truly special.
