See our reviewsKitulo Plateau National Park, known as Bustani ya Mungu (God’s Garden), is a botanical wonder in Tanzania’s Southern Highlands. At 2,600 meters (8,500 ft), it sits between the Kipengere, Poroto, and Livingstone Mountains. Fertile volcanic soils support Tanzania’s largest montane grassland.
The park has 350 plant species, including 45 types of terrestrial orchids. From November to April, wildflowers bloom in a stunning display. It is Africa’s only park dominated by wildflowers, birds, and grazing mammals.
Kitulo lacks large game but is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Rare species like Denham’s bustard, the endangered blue swallow, and the Kipengere seedeater thrive here. Endemic butterflies, chameleons, lizards, and frogs add to its biodiversity.
Gazetted recently, Kitulo stands out as Africa’s only floristic tourism park. As awareness grows, more visitors come to experience its breathtaking landscapes.
Tanzania embraces many lakes, national parks, savannahs, ocean, and some of the highest volcano mountains of Africa.
