Overview

Udzungwa is world famous for its biologically diverse forest that is home to 20-30% of the animals and plant species of Tanzania. Often referred to as ‘Galapagos of Africa’. The park covers up 1,990 km2 of Tanzania. The Udzungwa National Park contains tropical rainforest, mountain forest, miombo woodland, grassland and steppe. There are 400+ bird species and 6 primates’ species spotted on the national park as well as the national park is home to 2500 plant species. There are 2 rarest species of primates, The Iringa red colobus and Sanje crested mangabey that can be spotted only in this national park. The park offers only camping accommodation inside the park. The national park is the largest and most bio-diverse of a chain of a dozen large forest-swathed mountains that rise from eastern Tanzania. The park safari is mostly combined with the nearby Mikumi or Ruaha national park.
