Overview

The 3 peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro namely Shira, Mawenzi, and Kibo have formed a million years ago after volcanic eruptions. Kibo is now the highest one with the most famous Uhuru peak. There is no exact theory available of how the mountain got its name; however, it’s a Swahili word which means “Mountain of Greatness”. The German missionaries Johannes Rebmann of Mombasa and Krapf were the first climbers of Europe who attempted to reach the peak of the mountain. However, he got failed and the first climbers who succeed to reach the summit were German geology professor Hans Meyer in 1889. In 1939 there were 58 visitors who climbed the mountain and since then visitors are folding to climb the mesmerizing mountain.
