Overview

Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain, is composed of three volcanic peaks—Shira, Mawenzi, and Kibo—formed millions of years ago through volcanic activity. Among them, Kibo is the highest and home to the famous Uhuru Peak.

The origin of the name "Kilimanjaro" remains uncertain, though it is widely believed to derive from a Swahili phrase meaning "Mountain of Greatness."

European exploration of the mountain began with German missionaries Johannes Rebmann and Krapf, who attempted to reach the summit but were unsuccessful. The first successful ascent was achieved in 1889 by German geology professor Hans Meyer.

By 1939, only 58 visitors had climbed Kilimanjaro, but since then, its awe-inspiring beauty has attracted an increasing number of adventurers eager to conquer its heights.
