Overview

Acquiring 4,471 square kilometers Katavi national park is the 3rd largest national park in Tanzania. The park is quite remote and receives only about 1000 tourists each year. The park was established in 1974. The park encompasses 3 water sources; Katuma River, Lake Katavi, and Lake Chada floodplains. The park has to offer good untamed wildlife including Cape Buffaloes, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and elephants. The park also has a good population of predators like cheetahs, wild dogs, hyenas, leopards, and lions. The shoreline of Katavi is home to large flocks of open-billed and saddle-billed storks, spoonbills, crested cranes, and pink-backed pelicans.
