Zanzibar Island, nestled in the Indian Ocean along the Swahili Coast, lies just off Tanzania’s mainland. Its northern tip, Unguja, is positioned at 5.72°S, 39.30°E, while its southernmost point sits at 6.48°S, 39.51°E.
A narrow channel, spanning 36.5 kilometers at its narrowest point, separates Zanzibar from mainland Tanzania. The island itself stretches 85 kilometers in length and 39 kilometers in width, covering a total area of 1,554 km².
